Insomnia
I used to be such a good sleeper. But now-a-days, I rarely get enough sleep. I awaken many times during the night and have a terrible time getting back to sleep. Sometimes, I watch the clock as every hour creeps ever so slowly by.
I know many people have the same problem. I have asked friends what they do in the sleepless hours of the early morning. Some read, but I find I don’t have the concentration for that at 2:00 a.m. Others actually get out of bed and bake or cook something. That has absolutely no appeal for me. I love to cook, but not in the wee hours of the morning. Besides, being in the kitchen makes me want to snack…which is not a good idea in the middle of the night. It’s bad for digestion and terrible for weight control.
That leaves working on the computer, which I do occasionally, writing a blog or refining a chapter in whatever book I’m writing at the time. However, I always find that when I proofread what I’ve written the next morning, I find so many mistakes that I practically have to start all over again. So, what’s the point?
My solution after trial and error is to turn on the television. Unless you are a night owl, you will be astounded at how many programs are available. There are hundreds of cable channels selling just about anything, home decorating, house renovations, sports wrap ups and replays of earlier games, news and more news, and always the soap opera stories that I have recorded daily but never seem to have the time to watch. I particularly like looking at the local weather girls at 4:30 a.m. They look gorgeous in full make up, nice dresses and very high heels. How is it possible to be so put together at that hour? That is the worst time for me. Should I give up and make the coffee (that signals I will remain awake), and be tired all day or try one more time to fall back asleep?
Since so may of my friends claim to be awake at all hours too, I suppose I could phone one of them for a nice long chat. But, wouldn’t you know, the one or two times I’ve done that, I’ve awakened them and then they get annoyed that they can’t get back to sleep. It’s a no win situation. The only solution is to get out my credit card and do some home shopping network buying. For others of you, reading through all my previous blogs may be just the thing to put you to sleep.
Until my next inspiration…ciao
